Security-first planning poker for agile teams, since 2025

Why we built this

GiveItPoints started as a tool for our own sprint planning. We had been using free planning poker sites, and they mostly worked, but they paid for themselves with advertising. That meant ad networks and third-party trackers running in the same browser tab as our backlog, and it raised questions about where our story titles and team data ended up.

We also work with colleagues in the EU, so GDPR compliance was not optional. The tools that might have met our requirements were either not approved vendors at our company or came with pricing and policies we were not comfortable with.

So in 2025 we built our own: a planning poker tool designed with security first and GDPR compliance from day one, paid for by subscriptions rather than ads.

What that means in practice

  • No advertising. The product is funded by optional paid plans, not by ad networks.
  • Your data stays yours. Account holders can export or delete their data at any time, and our privacy notice spells out what we collect and why.
  • Analytics only with consent. Analytics cookies stay off until you opt in.
  • Secure by default. Encrypted connections, hashed passwords, and role-based access for teams and organizations.

What GiveItPoints does

  • Run estimation sessions using Fibonacci, T-shirt sizing, or custom scales
  • Vote in real time, with every vote hidden until the facilitator reveals them
  • Pull story details and acceptance criteria straight from Jira
  • Manage teams and organizations with role-based access control
  • Track estimation history across sprints

The free plan covers most small teams, and guests can vote without creating an account. Paid plans add more teams and members per team.

Brian Hurley built GiveItPoints. He has more than 30 years of experience in software development and has owned Premier Code, Inc. since February 2014.
